My Final Magazine Pages

Here are my final magazine pages, finished...

Designing the Double Page Spread

The double page spread was the hardest of pages to design, in my opinion, because of the mass of plain paper there was to cover. Also, I felt that it was hard to try and make this part still keep to the layout/colouring/style of the other two pages I had produced, and it was hard not to make it look like a newspaper article. However, either way, I knew that I needed an article, because although this audience is young, they are not kids - they are mature enough to read a lot.

The following screen shots shows the way in which I came to my final design, and the change process I went through, regarding ideas:

The decisions that I made here to come to my final design was not that drastic.

Designing the Contents Page

For the contents page, I decided to the main colours of black and yellow, which I used on the front cover.

The following are print screens recording my progress in making this contents page:

At first, I decided to have this image as the main one...

But then I changed my mind and put this black and white one as my main image, because I preferred the other guitar image as my background image on my front cover.

I then carried it on at home, on my Quark Express, 60 day trial which I downloaded.

Designing the Front Cover

I decided to start the front cover first, because I figured that the front cover would set the rest colour tones and style for the rest of the pages that I was to make. Unlike my contents page and double page spread, I created my front cover on Photoshop.

The following are all print screens showing my progress and changes in design ideas and appearance along the way:

The final print screen is what I ended up with. I found it extremely hard to put the writing over my picture, because I had both light and dark in the background image, so I thought I could not just stick to one light or dark colour. However, it turns out that I can, as I found a tool which gives glow or drop shadowing etc, to the letters. This allowed me to make my words stand out.
